About the project

The new Plastics2u website turns a complex, made-to-order product into a simple online purchase. Customers configure their own plastic sheets down to the size, edges and corners, and get an accurate shipping price for every custom order, all without picking up the phone.

The Problem

Plastics2u sells a product that’s almost never the same twice. Customers don’t buy a fixed item off a shelf; they need plastic sheets cut to their own specifications, with choices like bevelled edges, different corner settings and different edge finishes, in either predefined or fully custom sizes.

That kind of made-to-order product is difficult to sell online. A standard e-commerce setup assumes fixed products at fixed prices, which simply doesn’t work when every order is configured differently and priced on variable rates.

Shipping made it harder still. When the size of the product changes with every order, so does the cost of delivering it. A flat shipping rate would either overcharge customers or leave Plastics2u out of pocket, and manually quoting freight on every custom order doesn’t scale. The business needed a way to let customers build their own product and see an accurate delivery price at the same time.

Plastics2u needed an e-commerce solution that gave customers full control over their product while still pricing every order correctly, including freight.

The new site lets customers configure exactly what they need, choosing a predefined or custom size, then setting their edge and corner finishes, with pricing calculated from variable rates as they go. It puts the complexity in the customer’s hands in a way that feels simple, so they get precisely the product they want without back-and-forth.

To solve the shipping side, the site connects directly to BigPost, passing through the variable dimensions of each custom order so freight is calculated on the real product size every time. Customers see an accurate delivery cost at checkout, and Plastics2u never has to manually quote shipping or absorb the difference.

The result is a store built for a made-to-order business: customers get the control and transparency they need, and Plastics2u gets a system that prices both product and freight correctly on every single order.
